Climbing stairs are progress, the transition to the next level, the rise to higher levels of awareness. Typically it is an ascent of a spiritual kind; but it can also represent the social ascent, the self-realization, success. If the staircase is beautiful, wide, easy, with all the steps in place, then everything will be fine; if the road is winding and treacherous the summit will be an important milestone.
Halfway down the stairs, Is a stair where I sit,
There isn't any other stair, Quite like it,
I'm not at the bottom, I'm not at the top,
So this, Is the stair, Where I always stop,
Halfway up the stairs, Isn't up, And isn't down,
It isn't in the nursery, It isn't in the town,
And all sorts of funny thoughts,
They run through my head,
It isn't really anywhere, It's somewhere else instead,
Oh oh,
Halfway down the stairs, Is a stair where I sit,
