“Horus Eye”
June 2024 - Finalist
The overall Masterplan insists on curvilinear and organic routes in harmony with the main "sign" of the Spirale della Pineta, identifying a highly distinctive element also for the subsequent proposals for routes to be created in the future. The masterplan considers the first original routes of the designer Marcello d'Olivo, reinterpreted based on new routes and functions.
The fulcrum of the project is symbolized by a large eye placed in a barycentric manner concerning the area of the existing buildings and the free pine forest: it is a system made up of the union of small pavilions that host relational services and paths, pedestrian and cycle paths, on the ground and above the Eye of Horus is the symbol of protection, prosperity, royal power, and good health.
Spaces and equipment are provided for users, residents, and tourists:
- street furniture elements,
- viewing platforms,
- birdwatching cabins,
- sport equipment,
- raised walkways,
- recreational areas
- cycle paths.
Inside the pine forest, the paths are structured sinuous and organic to allow visitors to explore the site's interior and contemplate the native landscape responsibly and respectfully towards nature.
The routing system is divided into level paths and wooden walkways raised with elevations to have variable points of view, positioned in such a way as to guarantee continuity between the existing pedestrian paths and the vegetation of the pine forest.
For the redevelopment of the commercial square, new connections are hypothesized
pedestrian paths between the square, Via delle Arti, and the former Unicef park: a system made of wooden elements (walkways, platforms, stands) identified by a single color that gives a unitary connotation to the entire intervention. In the heart of the commercial square, steps are installed to constitute a real agora for gathering the public, hypothesizing, in a sort of open-air theatre, an arena for shows and events, set among the existing commercial buildings. The wood, the golden yellow color, and the suspended lights dominate.
It is a renewed overall image, in its appearance and also in the functions included:
- the Commercial Square is livened up with the introduction of a cycle-pedestrian road system;
- the dynamic flow between the waterfront and the pine forest is consolidated, giving a new, more colorful, and less cold look to the existing routes and with the inclusion of new relational spaces, especially dedicated to games and sports;
- the creation of new street furniture, lighting devices, and flooring: the use of wood is proposed as the leading material for the creation of almost the entire intervention, with the addition of color for greater identification. The warm yellow color highlights the paths and areas in the play of chiaroscuro of the Pine Forest.
In this rich renewed system, in the indicated project area, the building volumes of the Eco Hotel are inserted, with its rooms, relational spaces, services, and bungalows, developed along the sinuous paths that fit into the pine forest: yes it deals with ephemeral, light volumes, with an uncertain, undefined atmosphere. They are mostly suspended as if floating among the crowns of existing pine trees.
